My story

Salt in my hair.
Something to prove.

I make it look easy.
Doesn't mean I'm not trying.

I'm the easygoing surfer who gets quietly competitive the second someone starts keeping score. I'm curious. I'm warm. I'm usually working on something. A cleaner turn. A better shot. A tune I haven't figured out yet.

I grew up in Papeete, Tahiti. My mom is Tahitian and French. She shoots photos and taught me how to notice light. My dad is Mexican. He fixes boards and taught me to finish what I start. Stick around and you'll see all of that in what I make.

Two Shores

My roots
come with me.

Cream guayabera from my dad's side. Teal pareu from home. A tune on the veranda I'm still learning. My culture lives in the ordinary stuff I wear, play, and look after.

  • My guayaberaCream linen with four pockets. From my dad's side. I wear it when I want both homes with me.
  • My pareuMuted teal. From home. Easy to move in. Easy to be myself in.
  • My ukeStill learning. A little smoother every week. Family songs first.

Cleaner cutback

Three wipeouts this week. One clean ride yesterday. Still working the exit. I will post the next try.

Try three is up in Field notes

Court

Softer hands

My dink kept popping up. I drilled low and slow for a week. Better now. Still not where I want it.

Rematch soon

Music

That chord change

Slow hands at first light. Smoother than last month. Listen next week and tell me if you hear it.

Family songs first

Try it with me. Pick one skill. Post your try. I will post mine.

One More Round

You call me out.
I show up.

This week is dink rally on court. Longest rally wins. I lost the last one at fourteen to twelve. I have been practicing my soft hands since.

Last scoreYou fourteen. Me twelve. Rematch is on.

Got a challenge for me. Bring it. If I lose I practice the weak shot and show you next time.

One honest thought.

Papeete at first light

“Light came up clean and the harbor went glassy. I did not paddle out fast. I just watched for a bit. Some mornings are for noticing.”

I keep one like this most days. No big speech. Just what I saw. Come find them in Field notes.
